Understand roles and permissions in Optimizely PIM

PIM includes a set of roles with corresponding permissions that manage access to certain functionality in the application. When you add users to PIM, you will want to ensure they have the correct level of permissions. Use this table to help you understand what each role can manage.

PIM Roles

There are three main PIM roles: Administrator, Manager, and Merchandiser. You can add the Product Importer and Asset Manager roles to users with the Manager or Merchandiser roles to grant additional permissions to these users.

  • Administrator. Gives full access to all areas of PIM.
  • Manager. Gives permission to delete or approve assigned products and to create or edit properties and product templates.*
  • Merchandiser. Gives permission to edit assigned products.*
  • Product Importer. Gives users with manager or merchandiser role additional permission to import products.
  • Asset Manager. Gives users with manager or merchandiser role additional permission to import assets and access the assets section of PIM.

*Roles require property value or product template assignments to determine which products specific team members can manage.

Note: Users created before the addition of roles are all assigned the Administrator role. If you wish to limit access to these users, you must manually modify their permissions.
